Already rewarded at Game Awards, Bafta, by Japanese developers, or even by the mayor of the island itself, Ghost of Tsushima continues to seduce the public and the profession, especially on the side of the archipelago.

The Sucker Punch game has distinguished itself to the CEDEC Awards, awards discussed each year by CESA, the Japanese Association of Recreational Software Publishers, to reward significant contributions in the video game sector. For the 2021 edition of this ceremony that does not reward most of the time that works carried out in Japan, Ghost of Tsushima received the excellency awards for the sound and the visual arts. The jury particularly appreciated Kurosawa’s aesthetic tribute, the expression of the four seasons, the passage of time, the change of weather or the technical quality of the animation. The reward for the sound of course includes the beautiful music of Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru umebayashi, but also the work on the location, the direction of the actors and the writing of the scenario. The only other game having been rewarded for both the sound and the image since the creation of CEDEC Awards in 2008 is SPLATOON in 2016.

The excellency award in engineering was given to Sega for the Dragon Engine of RGG Studio, used recently in Yakuza: Like A Dragon . The enterprise has been recognized for its contribution to the technological development of the industry by sharing many of its development techniques and know-how, applauds CESA. In the Game Design category, the _excellency award has been delivered to the Edelweiss studio for its surprising work on Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin . CESA appreciated the way this small team set up a concept based on a niche subject such as rice growing while maintaining a balanced gameplay.

Finally, the special Award of the year was given to Mark Cerny. Architect of PS4 and PS5, this veteran made its ranges at Atari and Sega Japan before participating in many franchise productions like Crash Bandicoot , Ratchet & Clank , Jack and DaXter * *, Resistance , Knack , The Last Guardian , Marvel’s Spider-Man or Death Stranding **. Already multi-incomplete by the industry, he created his own consultant company (Cerny Games) but remains a key partner of Playstation since the mid-90s. Mark Cerny succeeds Hideo Kojima who had received the same price last year.
