Sonic the hedgehog 2 will reach the cinemas in a few weeks, and until now there has been a lot of expectation by the sequel. As expected, it seems that the movie will have its own promotion Happy Meal, with Tails, Knuckles and two versions of Sonic. Unfortunately, it seems that the promotion is currently limited to locations in Indonesia, since there has not been any official announcement for North America, until the time to write this article. It seems hard to believe that these figures will not end up making the cut here, but Sonic fanatics will only have to keep their fingers, for the moment!

The official Twitter account of McDonald’s Indonesia revealed toys on Twitter, along with a commercial. The video shows Sonic running through the self-service of the restaurant, where apparently Tails is employed! The video can be found on the Tweet embedded below.

Sonic The Hedgehog has a long history with Happy Meal toys, dating back to 1994. The fast food chain offered a promotion that year for Sonic the 3 hedgehog, which offers Figures of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik. That promotion actually caused a little headache for Sega, since the development of the game was delayed and the company had agreed on a strict deadline for February 1994, so the launch of Happy Meal was aligned with the game. Not wanting to break that commitment and wanting to provide more development time, Sega made the decision to divide the game in half, launching sonic the hedgehog 3 that month, and sonic and nudillos in October. Of course, that also led to the creation of the “blocking technology” that connected the two games!

While the new McDonald’s toys are based on movies instead of games, it is interesting to see how similar the two promotions are. If the toys are launched in North America, they will probably attract much those who grew up with the original Games of Sega Genesis, as well as the younger fanatics!
